On this day in 1975, the USS Laffey decommissioned for the second and final time. She was previously decommissioned in 1944 and recommissioned in 1951 to serve in the Korean War. The decommissioning ceremony took place at the Franklin Street Pier in Alexandria, Virginia. Six years later, in 1981, the USS Laffey became part of the fleet at Patriots Point. We are so thankful that she remains a vibrant part of our museum today! | Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum

All week volunteers from the USS Laffey Association (DD-724) were on board the destroyer completing painting and welding projects to preserve the ship. Most of the crew are veterans who served on the Laffey and their family members.
