Grade II listed country house. Built in 1838 and originally designed as an Italianate palace with its own Parkland. We ended up with lots of different uses. In 1894 it became a rectory and for sometime it was used to school local children. In the middle of the 19th century, it was used by Irish students. 1930 to 1939 it was used to house vagrants run by the council. In World War II, it was used as a quaker training centre for people who were doing relief work. Became a youth hostel in 1943. 1951
