The original Battlefield 1942 made infantry combat a bit of a crapshoot with its jumpiness, but it's easier to draw a bead on someone in the World War II mod of Battlefield Vietnam.

Battlefield 1 transported players to World War I, so a game set in World War II could logically be named Battlefield 2. Perhaps DICE didn’t want to confuse longtime players, though.

According to a recent report, the next entry in developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts' Battlefield franchise could take place during World War II.
